| The
fine-grained "white Main sandstone" from the Triassic period (Coburger
Bausandstein) is extracted from the Hahn Quarry near Eltmann in Bavaria.
Many historic buildings in the region of Bamberg and Coburg are built of
this stone. Hahnbruch sandstone is particularly valued in the conservation
of historic buildings and monuments due to its excellent technical properties,
its even structure and its texture. In recent years this sandstone has been used increasingly in Southern Germany as a substitute for other types of natural stone with a similar texture that are no longer quarried. |
