Recultivation:
The sustainable exploitation of natural resources helps
to retain existing habitats. We treat natural resources with great care,
and on completion of our excavations restore natural habitats as quickly
as possible.
Today the fundamental principle of reclamation is renaturalisation,
in other words, creating opportunities for restoring natural landscapes.
How these are used, and which species of flora and fauna benefit from
them, is left to nature. The Hermannsberg sandstone quarry in Sand am
Main is a good example of how the sustainable exploitation of natural
resources can promote biological diversity. Many quarries thus not only
provide valuable insights into geology but also habitats for countless
animal and plant species.
